Freeze Dried Food: Your Lifeline in Natural Disasters
Article by Natan Paine
Since the millennium change a decade ago, people have had the misfortune of witnessing a number of global conflicts and natural disasters, all of which have caused great damage, taken many lives, and altered how all of us will live in this world for the years to come. Because of this, many families have found it necessary to make thorough emergency plans to help ensure their own survival in the event some natural or man-made disaster occurs. Possibly the most important aspects of these plans is making sure there is enough water to drink and food, especially freeze dried foods, to sustain families when these become scarce.
In most cases, people will find decent survival foods in camping and outdoors sporting stores, whereas many grocery and regular sports stores may carry such foods in limited supplies. Yet, the majority of stores may not carry specialized survival foods, instead selling foods that, while long-lasting, come in packages that diminish their longevity. Because of factors like oxygen and moisture, the majority of cans and other kinds of packaging will deteriorate over time.
For emergency preparedness, it is best to find freeze dried foods that are exclusively designed for survival, since these will come in packages with special enamel coating which prevents external conditions from penetrating them and spoiling the food. Indeed, foods must be specially prepared for longevity, however, it is very often the packaging which makes foods fit for long-term survival. Many freeze dried foods on the market will keep its nutrition and freshness of at least 30 years, because they are kept in such specially designed survival packaging.
As part of our natural survival mechanisms, the human body has an increased need for protein during emergencies and times of stress. To avoid energy deficiencies and other potential health issues, it is important to include some dairy and meats, like chicken and beef, in your survival food stockpiles. With most of these meats, you can simply add hot water to reconstitute them, and then cook them in the same manner as regular frozen meats.
Also of the utmost importance, you must absolutely not forget to store many gallons of emergency water, so that you can continue to eat and wash yourselves when fresh water is otherwise available. However, you will not be able to store this water indefinitely, so investing in portable water purifiers and other purification chemicals, like chlorine bleach and iodine, could possibly save your family’s life if there is a very lengthy water shortage. You must, in all manners, do your research on emergency preparedness and survival strategies, as there may be a possible situation where you will not have immediate access to your survival kit yet you must survive anyhow. At all costs, you must do whatever it takes to provide for your family’s safety and survival! It is important to have emergency food supply.
